Dear All hams,
I just order a FT-2500 and it will arrive to Hong Kong next week.
Some ham told me that the output power of FT-2500 can tune up 70watt.
Is it right ?

Hi. I have a handheld, Kenwood TH-22E, that transmits from 144 to 146 MHz FM.
-Does anyone know the code that permits to broad up the band to 136-170 MHz FM?
Also, does any know of any books that say anything more than the manual says?
Many thanks in advance.

The only mods for the FT-2700 are pretty lame and useless. THere are some
diodes on the micro that let it tune down to 430 and on high band up to about
153 mhz. But the vco won't make the trip, and as a result you get no real
addition to the freq range.

I don't have addresses, but the Akabari (spelling?) district is where you want
to go. It is the electronics area, with perhaps hundreds of electronics
shops and at least 10 Ham shops within a a square mile or so. WHen you get
there just ask a shopkeeper to circle the ham places on a map. Have fun.

The name of the place is Akihabara, also known as "The Electric City". It's
about three stops north of Tokyo station on the JR line. A few things to
know in advance:
1. All of the JR station signs around Tokyo have romaji characters, so an
English speaking person can find their way around.
2. Plan on spending at least one day wondering around.
3. The big ham radio stores are pretty obvious, although you'll find the
bargains in the smaller stores that don't advertise in CQ Ham Radio.
4. The standard Akihabara discount is about 20% off list.
5. A little Japanese will go a long way. In particular, learn some basic
buying and bargaining words.

It would be one heck of a lot easier than trying one at a time till I

If you have drained 600 mA from this battery pack (receive current

NiCd battery discharge curves have a knee at around 1 V per cell.
7.2 V packs have 6 battery cells and the knee is at approx 7 V.
A 7.2 V NiCd pack is almost fully discharged at 7.2 V and is fully
discharged at 6V. The low battery warning will come on somewhere
around 6 V. At that point there is barely enough capacity (remaining
current) to receive. Consider yourself lucky if you can transmit the
words "dead battery". What you have described is typical for HT's.
I don't know if you can adjust the voltage which indicates low bat.
: This is the 2nd HTX-202 I have owned. The first was dead on tranmit,
: out of the box. This unit seems to work, except for this problem.
: However, the VOL control on top of the HT is mounted slightly crooked,
: wrt the other rotary controls. Function is unaffected. It just looks
: bad, if you look carefully at it. Given the questionable quality record
: of these units, I decided to keep it, since it worked. Perhaps I'll be
: going for Unit # 3 soon!
: If at first you don't succeed, return the unit to RS!
You may wish to exchange it because of the Vol control (was it installed
at an angle during assembly or did it get bent do to rough handling?)
but everything else you describe is normal operation.
: Please reply by e-mail - I will post summary!

Hi Y'all !!!
I would like to build a crystal-controlled oscillator which can be
phase-locked to an input signal. Has anyone done this ??
The oscillator will operate at either 2.4576 or 4.9152 MHz, and must
lock onto a 2.4 KHz audio tone (f/1024 or f/2048). Lock-in and tracking
range must be +/- 2 Hz (relative to Fin). The input signal is often
buried in noise.
Once locked, the oscillator should not drift too far if the input
signal drops below threshold - fast lock-up and slow release.
Any ideas ??
Thanks in advance.

Subject: Reviving NiCads - FT-470 Battery pack
To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu
Hi All!
I have an FT-470 VHF/UHF HT. It's not been used for at least 6 months, and now
that I have my UK call, I'd like to fire it up again.
I think that the NiCad pack, an FNB-14, has finally decided not to hold its
charge. It can sit on the charger for hours, and will attain ~6.9 V
immediately after disconnecting form the charger. This is a 7.2 V 1 Ah pack.
It doesn't get excessively warm during charge. However, once I connect
the pack to the radio, that's it. The radio will receive for approx. 30
secs before the "low battery" light flashes up. Transmitting is right out!
After a while, the pack won't even drive the display - turning the radio off
and on will cause the tx light to flash momentarily (normal at turn on, I seem
to remember), but that's it.
I've run the radio quite successfully using the "car adapter" and +12 V,
so I can safely assume that the radio isn't dragging huge currents out of
the pack. Hence, I suspect that the pack has had it ...
Can anyone advise as to the probable cause of this dilemna, and any possible
restorative action that I could take? (Short of buying a new pack, that
is. :) )
TIA, and 73's
